Rolling hillsides, meandering streams, mature forests and scenic views– these are among the characteristics that Pierce Township residents value.  In order to maintain these values, the Township Trustees established the Pierce Township Greenspace Program in 2007 via resolution.

The mission of the Greenspace Program is to preserve land – via acquisition, conservation easement, conservation development, covenants or other methods – that has ecological or historical significance, natural corridor potential, aesthetic or scenic value, or inherent traits that contribute to the positive character of the Township.

Greenspace, land that is in an undeveloped or natural state, contributes to the social, environmental, and economic well-being of communities.  Benefits of greenspace include:

• Reduced soil erosion and runoff
• Improved air and water quality
• Wildlife habitat
• Ecological protection
• Aesthetic and scenic beauty
• Passive recreation
• Reduced energy costs
• Increased property values
