What is a Knox Box?

A Knox Box, known officially as the KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry System is a small, wall-mounted safe that holds building keys for firefighters to retrieve in emergencies. Building owners may obtain a Knox Box, which the local fire department can open during an emergency. It will be permanently mounted near the entrance to your building, placing a copy of your building's keys inside.

Knox Boxes are an alternative to leaving keys on deposit at the local fire department where they might become obsolete or be misplaced at the time of a fire. In a district with extensive Knox Box use, firefighters and EMT’s need only carry the master key to the Knox Boxes in that area, instead of keys to individual buildings.

What type of Knox Box Do I Need?

The most popular “KNOX-BOX” product is the heavy-duty, high-security 3200 Series Key Box that stores keys, access cards and other small items. Optional tamper switches allow you to connect the KNOX-BOX to a building's alarm system, adding further security. Additionally, there is a whole family of options pictured below to choose from.
